TECH: Konami X-Men - which RAM is foreground and text?

Graphics of the X-Men are normal, but backgrounds and the text in the self
test are blocky and unreadable. I could not find a schem of course. I tihnk
it's RAM, seems to vary a bit with voltage. Higher voltage gets waves of
static looking clouds on the screen, turning it down just gives blocks
again. No, it won't go low enough to let me read the self test alas.
