I recently tried to fix a problem on my friend's computer using system
restore.
Now I cannot get windows explorer to open. Everytime I try to open a
folder/my computer/control panel etc. it simply does not come up, and I
get the message asking if I would like to send an error report to
Microsoft.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
I would love to just reverse the system restore, but I have no idea how
to do it other than through the wizard . . . which I can't get to
because of the explorer problem.
I am desperate, and I cannot find any info on microsoft.com or google,
etc. as to how to fix this.

Try this:

Start > Run > Type "%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe" without the
quotes > hit Enter.

Hi,

As long as the restore was preformed in normal mode there will be a
undo option.

Boot into Safe Mode and launch the System Restore wizard and select
"Undo my last restoration".

After rebooting into normal mode you could select a restore prior to
the previous restore point that caused the explorer problem.
