I got it at PC world :-( , Its was my birthday and wanted a card this was the only decent one there.
It came as a package called NBOX. With loads of games, DVD software and quite a few connectors

check out

www.watford.co.uk
www.ebuyer.com/uk

To start with. When you say 'I'm tempted by the alienware pc, is that serious? Cos they cosyt much more than they should. Plus the FX amds are overpriced.

Look out for a ATI 9800 Pro / xt, or 5950 / 5900 because they really are should be cheaper than 330 quid!

If you want any more help with buying in the uk, just pm if you want!

Theyre good to. And Komplett did have a deal where a Sapphire 9800 Pro was only £135 including VAT for this week only, not sure it its still on or not, but that would have been a very good deal.

Wait a second, are you saying he can get the R9800pro for 135 and his FX5900 was 330? Or am I missing something in currency exchanges. The R9800 Pro is far superior.

I get my stuff from overclockers.co.uk. They have 9800pro's @ £150. Never buy anything pc related from dixons/pc world or the like. I just built an athlon 64 3200 system and it only set me back £350 because i used a few parts from my old setup. You could pay £1200 @ pc world for same spec.

As to ur cards performance. Well its clocked @ 400/700 compared to a proper 5900 @ 450/850 so its slower than a standard 5900 so its about as fast as a 9700pro or 9800np which for £350+ is stupidly slow. You could have bought 2 cards that are faster than ur card for that money. A 5950 would be way faster than ur card and still save you £100. TAKE IT BACK NOW!

The FX5900 is just behind the R9800 non-pro and the R9700Pro. But with an expensive card, you want to use AA/AF, and both those Radeons are clearly ahead of the FX5900 with those settings.

As far as what ATI's is it better than, It is better than the Radeon 9700 non-pro, 9600XT/Pro, R9500Pro and below, yet I'd wager not all owners of those cards would trade you for yours because of IQ.

Sounds to me that you should definately return it even having to pay shipping and a small restocking fee. Buy the Radeon 9800 Pro from where others pointed out. Much cheaper price and much better card.

If his is clocked lower than a real FX5900, it is no where near a 9700Pro/ 9800NP. The ATI's would own it in amost every test; except Quake 3.

Edit: these would be a better charts for UT2003, as AA/AF should be used on high end cards in that game. Look at 4X/8X. Return it and buy a Radeon!

Ouch, but can be overclocked back up to 850 normal settings. The rip off is looking worse and worse.

So you guys are saying the ATI 9800 pro (256mbddr) is the best and far better than my card ?
Well the Radeon 9800XT is the best. But priced much higher than a 9800 Pro. Can you return your card?

But YES the Radeon 9800 Pro is better than your Card. The 128MB is basically just as good as the 256MB, and usually much cheaper. Obviously if priced the same take the 256MB as maybe future games will take advantage of the extra memory. But don't pay alot more for it as almost every benchmark shows them as equal, except maybe 1600x1200 with 4X/8X.

don't listen to these retards. Oh my god, you people, stop being stupid fanATics. He's got a good card, nBox comes with a bundle no ATi can ever have. Dude, keep ur nBox and be happy with it. WOW! a 9800pro is going to beat it by like 5 fps?! oo now your blabbing about DX 9 shiit. Go get updated, the new forceware fixed the slowass DX9 performance, that means, yes u can play DX9 at a performance on par with the 9800s. Geez you people, stop making people's life harder. You can come and tell me 5900 sucks when u actually owned one of these instead of reading off numbers from a website.

And there was me thinking the issue was that he had been RIPPED OFF. No software bundle can make up for that!

Don't think you quite understand Coolsquirtle - £330 is almost $600!!! So getting a 9800pro for £135 (<$250) is an excellent deal. If he wants NVidia by all means tell him to get it - just get it from an online supplier rather than PC World cos he'll save 25% easily!

I used to work for The Link (part of the same PC World/Dixons/Currys group) - selling a phone without giving a discount was a killing! You made so much commision it was great! So basically, come here, get recommendations, go online, buy cheaply. The only benefit of PC World is that they can do instant replacements if something does go wrong, but if you take it carefully, nothing should.

So ask questions, save money and never buy from a major shop!

You are way off base. 5fps?? lower than on a Radeon 9800 Pro,Yeah Sure. Take off those NVidia Goggles so you can see the truth, the IQ is much better without them.

The FX5900 blows with AA/AF compared to the Radeon 9800 Pro, and the ATI has better Image Quality. Plus is still better in DX9, even after NVidia's optimizations. PLUS DID YOU SEE HE COULD BUY 2 RADEON 9800 PROS FOR THE PRICE OF HIS INFERIOR FX5900, AND HAVE MONEY LEFT OVER.

That better be one seriously sweet bundle and have a real live DAWN included for that price.

Sorry for shouting, but why recommend he pay 3 times what the thing is worth? If you only play Quake 3 and money means nothing to ya, keep the FX5900.

LOL @ cool. Aye the 5900 is a good card, but not for £100 ($150) more than a 5950 or a 9800XT!
