Tech: Tron woes. Any Tron experts?

I apologize for the long post. Pictures would help, but my digital
camera is broken.

I recently picked up a Tron Cabaret in good physical condition. The
sound was intermittent, some was missing but mostly ( 100% now )it's
just shorted out through the speakers, also it looked like it had RAM
problems (came up once with a ram error, and images sometimes
disappear. Once I get to level 2 and do the 3 light cycles the game
resets every time). I just started digging into it today and I have a
few questions. I'm new to this, so please bear with me.

I'm going to carefully remove and reseat all the socketed chips. I hear
about people washing boards in a dishwasher, but I'm scared to do this.
Is it really nesessary? I'll just used canned air and blow the dust
off.

POWER BOARD

The battery on the power supply works, but is really corroded. I'll
replace this with a lithium battery. I found instructions on how to do
this. The 2 plugs on the corner of the power supply look fine. I
removed them and can see no corrosion at all. I haven't tested voltages
yet because I have a few other problems I want to take care of first.

PCB

The ribbon cables between the 3 boards look frayed on the edges. I know
I can replace these with dual 50 pin SCSI cables.

On the back of the board is a 20 pin molex connector with red and
yellow wires going into it from the power supply. This is burned up in
some places on the connector and the yellow wire in the middle(10 or 11
depending which way you count, but it's isolated)is burned off.

Where can I pick up another connector and the pins to crimp the wires
on? I looked at Digi-Key, but I really don't know what to call it other
than a Molex connector and there seems to be tons out there. Would
Fry's have something like this so I can visually identify it?
Is this it?

[.100 Housings with pins 24 pos] and I just have 4 extra slots, or I
can cut it to size?

SOUND BOARD

The 8 pin white connector on the left side of the sound board looks
like it was rewired, but I don't know how to verify it. There is a
black shrouded set of 3 wires going into it, one of them has no
insulation. This non-insulated wire is nearly falling out and only 2
strands of wire are going into the connector. The order on this
connector is:
========
empty
red (part of the shrouded 3 wires)
exposed wire (part of the shrouded 3 wires)
empty
white/green
black (part of the shrouded 3 wires)
empty
grey/black
========

the 3 shrouded wires look like they lead to a small brown connector on
the PCB boards. This has tiny pins and I think this is called a .156
connector? But how do I know what pins are in it? I see Trifurcon Pins,
but i don't know how to tell what these are. it looks like I can push a
barb down with an exacto knife and remove the pin. The order on this
connector is:
========
red (part of the shrouded 3 wires)
exposed (part of the shrouded 3 wires)
black (part of the shrouded 3 wires)
blank
blank
blank
Orange/black
yellow/red
black/grey or white
=========

Once I get this sorted out I figure I can then relaibly test voltages.

Sorry to be long and rambling, I'm just starting to understand how
these things are wired. Whatever I learn I'll pass on to the next
person. TIA!

-CF

I have a MS PacMan I'm trying to repair the board on, so between the
two of these my head is spinning, but I'll get it! =]

Definitely replace these with the SCSI cables.

I did both of the above and my Tron has been flawless for 5 months now.

Thaks. I'm doing the scsi cables today.

After reading teh schematics as best I could it turns out that there is
supposed to be a bare stranded wire going from the PCB to the dual
sound board. Why though?

I've figured out what pins/connectors to get as well, so if I can find
them today then maybe this thing will be running nicely tonight. =]
