hi, please can someone advise me whether i should go for a ati radeon 9600XT, 9800 pro or a 9800Se ?????

also, i could get a 9600xt with 256mb, is it worth having the extra memory ????

sorry, but im new to all this and its a minefield of info out there with regards to graphics cards !!!!

In order of performance:
Worst:9800SE
Better:9600XT
Best:9800 Pro

The extra memory is not likely to provide noticable benefits to current cards (simply because by the time games need that much, these cards will all be outdated).

I agree with crashman, I have owned both the 9600 Xt and the currently the 9800 pro, I get an extra 3,500 3d2001 marks out of it and 38000 aquamarks (9000 more)

Leave out anything that is a cheap model of a known card (SE version), you will be disapointed.

As for 256 meg of ram, only with high AA at 1600 x 1200 will you notice any benifits whatsoever, and then only now and again.

sapphire 128mb 9800pro
sapphire 128mb 9600xt
sapphire 256mb 9600xt
hercules 128mb 9600xt
oem radeon 128mb 9800pro

any manufacturers to avoid ???

also, any similar nvidia cards in this range.

Go for the 9800 pro, I have had the 9600 XT and for the extra dollars you get around 3000 3dmarks more in 2001 SE to 15500 and about 39000 Aquamarks ( 10000 more than the 9600XT)

And stay away from Powercolor and sparkle, Sapphires good.
