I am running win xp on a 3.4ghz with 512 ram. I am using 4 custom usb cameras
running through a self powered hub. I keep having the problem of all 4
cameras shutting down. They work fine for a little while then shuts down for
no reason. It tells me that the usb device has failed. I have tried different
hubs with the same results. Each camera is pulling 350 mA which should be
fine for a self powered hub. Any suggestions?

You can connect over 100 peripheralls to a USB port on your PC if most of the
units are self-powered. The problem here is the source, your PC. The USB
port on your PC that the hub is connected to has insufficient power to
support the hub and the cameras. You can get a multi-port USB hub card that
plugs into the motherboard using system power and that should solve your
problem, it did mine.
