when I do a shutdown from XP SP2 it will just reboot and start again.
It used to work fine and for some reason started doing this.

any clues on how to fix it?

very nice...thanks...now that Ive looked into it, I think that it was
schedule to turn on at a certain time to support backups. But I can see
anything in the scheduled tasks and I ve looked all over and cant find where
that was done, but it sure seems certain to me that I had scheduled this PC
to turn on at a specific time.
Do you know where that control is in XP?

A scheduled startup from a powered down state would have to be handled by
the BIOS.
