slow restart due to personal settings

Hi,

I installed windows XP earlier today and when I restarted I was quite happy that it took only an instant to boot up. It would flash the windows pro boot screen, then rapidly flash "welcome" and it would be done.

Now when I restart however, it pauses for about 20-50 seconds on "loading personal settings". The first time it happened I almost restarted thinking that it had frozen because it wasn't even accessing the harddrive anymore.

My question is what have I done that makes it take so long loading "personal settings"?

Thanks,
Malu

Is this computer a member of a domain? If it is, then it could be trying to communicate with a Domain Controller on a busy network.

I had a virtual drive connected as a shortcut to another comptuer on the network and that is what was slowing down the boot up time.

Thanks!
