There's a reason for the buyer's guide at the top of this forum. It's so people don't ask questions like this over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over!

Well, I for one am thankful for the work Spit-fire did on the buyers guide, but I wouldn't come down on him for this question. Reason being these cards are so different. People are recommending the Ti4200 all the time still, well the Ti4600's can be purchased NEW for $100 and even under $100 if you get lucky. Radeon 9600XT's are almost $50 above that. I myself sure would buy the Radeon 9600 Pro or XT, or better yet 9800 Pro. But given the price difference, the Ti4600 can be a valid option for someone wanting a quick DX8 card and planning on upgrading in a year when prices will surely be down on the current top cards.

I think the Ti4600's were probably priced higher when the guide was written.

Anyway, if priced nearly the same, go 9600XT all the way. If a real 400/600 clocked 9600 Pro is the same as the Ti4600, go 9600 Pro. Play FarCry on both cards and you'll see a visual difference.

GeForce4 Ti4200 and Radeon 9600XT performs similar in older DX8 games. In new DX9 games, R9600XT performs better. It's also much faster with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering enabled.

Go for R9600XT if you have money. You can save some money if you buy R9600 Pro. It's very little slower than R9600XT
