Radeon 9800 Pro

I recently got an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Everything went smoothly until I ran a benchmark using 3dmark03. Then I just got really mad. My score was only 2400!!!!!! My friend's 9700 Pro did 5000. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks

First thing, List your system specs and what version of the Catalyst drivers you are using?

What driver version?

Check and make sure your advanced display properties are set to ATI defaults and not higher toward max image quality.

Did you install your motherboards chipset drivers before the ATI drivers?

Yea...slide your quality settings over to "looks like mud" and re-benchmark.

I have the driver 4.1. I also got my score up to 3200 by increasing the aperture size from 128 to 256. Also, I have everything set to balanced between performance and quality. I have vertical sync always on. These settings are all the settings my friend used when he got 4700. So, there is something wrong.

You need to turn Vsync OFF ! as a general rule vsync is never required in games, or you set it to application on, so if a game needs it, it turns it on. But as a rule, turn it off.

note. when your score increased after resetting the agp aperture from 128 to 256 did you adjust anything else ?.

3DMark03 is far less cpu dependent than 2001se. I'd expect at least 5400-5500 on your system. Are you sure your drivers are set to ATI defaults? Try sliding it down to max performance then. I was over 5700 at default speeds and a slight OC puts it over 6000.

Again, did you install the motherboards chipset drivers? At 2000-3200 3DMarks, something is majorly wrong. You don't need little tweaks, you need to find what's wrong.

Where do you turn off vsync for an 9800 pro card? I can't seem to locate it.

advanced properties, 3D tab, then put a checkmark in use custom. It is in the custom settings.

I have all the mobo drivers installed and all the correct chipset drivers installed. I'm thinking about formatting the computer to see if there is something wrong there. Maybe it just needs a fresh install.

I just ran the benchmark with vertical sync turned to application preference. This resulted in a score of 2992. Still not where it should be. Turning it off also didn't result in a very good score.

It was the ATI drivers that was causing a problem for some reason. With catalyst 4.1 I got around 2800, but with the 3.10 drivers I got 4800. Which is better. Thanks for the help.

Maybe somthing didn't get installed properly, or more likely it was a setting you had within the drivers. I have used both 3.10 and 4.1 without any significant performance changes. Glad you're up and running quicker now.

I have a crappy Dell, 1.7 P4, 512 rdram and Asus ATI 256 Radeon 9800Pro. Default settings i scored 5090. overclocked the card 398/380, 714/680. Quality instead of high quality. vsync off, AA & AF to APP pref. Scored a 5338. Used the Drivers on disc that came with card.
2001 scores i can only get about 10,000 and change,

going to build new rig with AMD 64 3200+ cant wait!!!
