9800 Pro Performance Problems

Just upgraded my computer with a 256MB 9800 Pro but notice that certain games, like Quake3 run slower than on my 128MB 9700 Pro that i formerly had. I've even overclocked the new card to 410/370 with no artifacts and Q3 is still slower. I used to get about 260fps on the 9700 Pro at 350/340, but now i only get about 247 with my 9800 Pro at 410/370!! Here's my specs:

P4 2.53/ 533FSB
Dell 845PE chipset motherboard
512MB PC 2700 Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB @ 410/370
On board Sound (Sound Max)
250W Power Supply

Any thoughts?

You're kidding, right? WTF complains about a slight performance loss in Q3?!!?

Anyway, make sure all the settings are the same and maybe try upgrading your PSU for stability's sake.

If you don't want the 9800Pro, I'll take it.

You're joking, right?

260fps VS 247fps? No human being in the world can detect that using their eyesight. So that's kind of irrelevant.

If you're 3dMark2003 score is lower, then you might have a problem. Otherwise, you're just insane or obsessed.

I've heard the 256MB version actually does run a tiny bit slower in some of the older games.

Yeah no kidding... you'd think 256mb would be too much memory for a dinosaur like Q3...
hahaha let him fret, why should we care?

I've actually heard it takes a tiny amount longer to address the extra RAM, and since the program can't gain any advantage from the added RAM, the slightly longer timings actually cause a very small performance loss.

Hmm, only 247 FPS in Q3....and 260 B4 that, what my concern is how slow it's actually going, I get i get Much much more than that with my 9800 pro and a 2700XP chip.

You seem to have some serious problems, not, [-peep-] who cares about a lousy couple of frames anyway ? post your 3d mark scores and then we will look at it....

I switched to a 256 9800pro from a g4 ti4800se and i deffinately have better performance and benchmark scores. I went from around 1200 to 5300 in 3dmark 03. Games run and look smoother except for Halo. Game has no textures or anything. Need to see screenshot to see what i mean.

You must have alot of money to burn if you upgraded from 9700 to 9800. If so, throw some greens this way.
