Aged Gateway CPU Upgrade

Hi all,
I have an old Gateway MX6433 laptop with a single core Turion 64 ML-30 processor.

It is in excellent physical condition, but slow as molasses. Is there any processor I could upgrade to that will improve the throughput of this antique? I imagine a dual core is out of the question, huh?
Thanks...

  1. laptops parts are integrated and usually cannot be removed or changed. when purchasing a laptop, its almost guaranteed that everything will not be unchangable except the hard drive, and dvd drive

Really? Then why do I see so many of my old processors available online? They look just as replaceable as desktop CPUs.

Most laptop processors are sold both as μPGA (micro Pin Grid Array, removable) or BGA (Ball Grid Array, unremovable). The BGA processors are soldered directly to the motherboard and are not removable.
  4. Not to belabor the point, (plus, I haven't opened my case that far yet), but from the looks of these replacement MX6433 motherboards... it looks like my processor uses a standard AMD 754 socket: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Computer-Components-Parts-/175673/i.html?_nkw=mx6433+motherboard

    ???
  5. That's certainly possible. It's up to the motherboard manufacturer to select an appropriate form factor. Please keep in mind that your system's firmware may not have support for other CPUs. You'll need to find that out ahead of time
  6. You could upgrade to AMD Turion 64 Mobile technology MT-40. I upgrade laptop CPUs all the time so don't let anyone tell you that its not possible.

Thank you for the reply. So the Turion 64 Mobile MT-40 is the top end for this old machine? Do you think I'd see a difference from the MT-30 I have in it now?
