Radeons seem to slaughter GF-FXs in Far Cry demo.

With performance like this in new games, there's absolutely no reason to buy FX cards over Radeons

I wish they had showed the R9600Pro and the FX5600Ultra Rev.2 (since they had the R9800P and FX5900) to show mnore of the mid range.

A good exposure of the R9800SE 128/256 modded/not modded performance.

Too bad they didn't use the 56.64 drivers and 4.3 drivers as both have their benifits.

Didn't understand their comment about PS 2.0 vs 2.X (since nV can't even do 2.0 well, and in the game they mention this in (FarCry) the nV is actually running replaced 1.1 PS not 2.X (whatever that is).

Even with 1.1 PS replacement, the nV is still slower in FarCry (showing the efficiency of PS2.0 shaders as predicted by 3Dmk03?).

I also didn't understand why they say in IL-2 with high res (16x12) and high AA/AF it's a failure of HyperZIII, when it seems to me to be more of a question of memory bandwidth w/ 128bit memory running much slower than the FX5700U, not some failure of the lossless compression. I think they expect it to make up much more ground than it can (300mhz vs 450mhz). Even OC'd its memory is 80mhz slower than the STOCK FX5700U memory.

Spitfire, yeah considering that the game heavily assists the FX series, they are surprising results. But had we not found out what was going on in FarCry I don't think it would be as surprising, I think we'd simply say, ahh yes, PS 2.0 performance, not that 'even with partial precision it's still well behind'.

wow, and considering what we do know about farcry. It is amazing that at playable resolutions the FX5950U can't even spank a radeon 9600XT. Oh man, that is FX at it's most pathetic state. Imagine buying a $400+ card, loading up farcry and finding out your friends $150 radeon 9600XT not only keeps up but is actually doing more too? Ugh.

Yeah "when it works" being the important caveat.

Also it would suck if FarCry were your main game and you had an FX.

Doubt it for most people though. I don't know any people who've been on pins and needles waiting for it. Now if this is the case with other anticipated games (that people likely have already been given a warning about) then you'll see alot of people complaining quite vocally me thinks.

 , yeah guess so. I have seen the saphire 128 bit ones for $135 new though. Not too bad. So here in the US it is priced where it should be, about = to a R9600 Pro.

This and the R9600 Pro would be sweet $100 cards if the price goes that low this Summer without supply drying up.

It's already on the cover of THG and at the Inquirer and Xbit (originally from ExtremeTech I believe), that the NV40 will be announced on April 13. Like GW and I said, this is likely a paper launch and the product won't hit shelves until likely May/June.

If the NV40 is really the renamed NV45 then it should be a very very good part. It'll be interesting to see the differences in architecture/performance again.

Yeah, I've been watching 9600 PRO prices too. $100 would be a great price point. That plus a decent motherboard and memory would be a nice upgrade.

I don't need 1600x1200 nor AA so a 9600 PRO would really hit the sweet spot.
