Need a new laptop

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and all forums in general, so I'm not sure if this is in the right place but...

I'm looking for a new laptop, because as you can see the one I have at the moment is very bad (HP mini 210-1000)

I've been looking at http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_5750G_Core_i5_Laptop_LX.RXL02.108/version.asp this one but I wanted a second opinion. I want to be playing games like Battlefield 3, maybe call of duty, skyrim and Minecraft. Also I would be using it for video editing, but not at the same time :]

Would this laptop be good enough for my needs?

Help appreciated

  1. Hello kieranfb;

That NVIDIA GeForce 610M is quite weak. It's more of a home entertainment card than a gaming card. It's fine for Minecraft, no so fine for the rest.

  2. Everything would be good enough except the nVidia 610 is a joke for games. If you want to get your Skyrim on, you'll want something beefier.
  3. Have you got any suggestions for laptops around the £500 mark?

(Also, it's mainly just battlefield 3 and minecraft I'm bothered about)

  4. A GT 630M / GT 540M is going to be about the best you can hope for in a graphics card near that price range.

  5. Something like this:

    Acer Aspire 5750G 15" notebook £500
    Core™ i5-2450M 2.5ghz CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 15.6" 1366x768 LCD w/GT 630M Graphics
  6. And that would be capable of Battlefield and such?

    Thanks

  7. It will run BF3. I don't think you'll be happy with the performance though.
    It's very marginal.
  8. I don't mind low graphics settings, as long as it doesn't lag
  9. Did you look at the 'average' FPS in the GT 630M link above?
You're talking 'Lag City' when you move into fire fights, explosions or busy busy game play.
  10. I see.
I'll probably buy that one still, thanks very much for the help!
