Hi,

Im looking for a Radeon 9600 card, found some on newegg.
These r the ones ive shortlisted:-

1. SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600 Video Card, 128MB DDR 95$

2. SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600 Video Card, 256MB DDR 103$

3. SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600 PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR 129$

Which one should i go for?
My budget is within 150$.

Would going for a 9600 pro 128mb better than going for a 9600 256MB...and how about the brand GIGABYTE.

Thnkz

From the FAQ:

_______________________________

Lower Midrange Cards ($100 to $200)
_______________________________

Recommended Cards
Best buy: Radeon 9600 PRO, GeForce FX5900 SE/XT

Special notes for midrange graphics card buyers:

Avoid 256 MB versions and save money. 256 MB VRAM is useless with these cards and card manufacturers often use inferior memory in 256 MB cards

I'd vote for number 3 (the pro). Sapphire is a pretty good brand from what I read.

Barton 2500+
Abit NF7-S v 2.0
Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM
512MB Corsair Twinx 3200LL
9600 Pro
Enermax Noisetaker 420 watts
Win98SE

The PRO will wipe the floor with those other two cards. Some vendors also advertise 9600SE's as 9600s, so be wary.

I think so, as long as its ATI. And I agree that that is the better route to go, as the 9800p has alot more horsepower (and TORQUE! lol).

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)

The 9200 non-se is OK by today's standards, but I wouldn't bother with it. It's about as good as a 9600SE, but it doesn't have DirectX 9.

And a 9200SE is the equivalent of a performance abortion. Like the GeforceFX 5200.

It's not as good as a 9600SE. Try turning on AF/AA with one of those things... ouch. I know the 9600se isn't powerful enough to really use those features, but 4x AF on a 9600 won't make a dent in the performance so you could run it with that. You couldn't on the 9200 though.
