Radeon 9550?

Seems that ATI is scared the that the 9600se can't compete with Nvidia budget solutions(5700le), and will make a new card based on the RV350.

It will have a 128bit bus and 250/400 clocks.

I really hope that this card is a good OCer. Nothing suggests that it should'nt be.

Better story from the Register, and in english no less.

So it's essentially an underclocked R9600, not any version of the R9500/9700(R300) core.

So the performance chart should look like this

R9550SE < R9600SE < R9550(pro?) < R9600 < R9600PRO < R9600XT

Yeah it will be interesting to see if ATI does anything to keep it from competing with the R9600 through overclocking.

Should be an ok card, and I think it will more than easily handle the FX5500. The FX5700LE, we'll have to wait and see.

This is one product that completely baffles me.

What's the point? is the 9600SE not slow enough? What's the advantage in branding something with a smaller number than the 9600, when it's the same chip with the same features?

Surely there aren't any 9600 GPUs that can't work at stock 9600 speeds... so it's not a binning issue.

I have absolutely no clue as to why they bothered with this one. Totally without any reason to exist, I'd LOVE to know what purpose, marketing or otherwise, this card will fill.

Yeah I saw that too. I think it was necessary at first, but I was hoping the RV370 would be the end of the SE cards. I guess not.

I'm sure you are right on the Certainly. Those Stupid Editions should be put to rest.

I just came from Bestbuy where the guy in front of me was buying a Radeon 9200 for $100. If it had been an se, I would have piped up. I was hoping he'd notice the farcry retail box in my hand and ask about the game. It would give me reason to say better go swap cards if you want to play this. Side note, but I had to buy farcry because the 80GB Seagate HDD for $49.99 (no rebates) sold out minutes before I got there. I was down. Man they sold 5 in the last hour. Oh well, i'll enjoy the game instead.
