It seems that XP is forgetting my speaker settings each time I log off. It seems to think that I have pc speakers (a left and a right channel only) I have a 5.1 Digital card. The advanced audio settings get set to 5.1 but when I go in to set the speaker volumes (there is supposed to be one slider per channel, I should see 6 right?) I only see 2 a left and a right. Now when I play the standard windows start up wav it plays on all 5.1 channels but if I do the system test in the SB Mixer I only get sound on the 2 channels...like wise in games I only get sound in 2 channels. Meaning that when I face an NPC speaking to me I have to face off to one side or the other because the centre channel is not working.

Please help.

Try uninstalling the soundcard, and then Defrag the H/D, and reinstall the soundcard.

Also make sure that your sound card's mixer is set to 5.1. If it isn't, it will keep resetting itself.
