I have a laptop that was working fine for a while. All of a sudden it hangs
on the Windows XP screen. I tried booting in safe mode and it still hangs at
the same place. So I format the drive and did a clean install and it's
working fine for about a month now the same thing happens again. Is there
something I can do to fix this instead of having to reformat the drive and
reinstall everything? I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2 with all the
latest updates.

Thanks

Hard drive failure is probable.

Boot to the XP setup CD, and press 'r' for recovery console, run the command : CHKDSK /R

If no help, you are probably faced with some hardware replacement.

I tried that too. But once it finish checking, when I reboot, I still get the
same problem. Is there a way to check if it really is the hard drive failing?

Thanks
