I currently have a AMD XP ATHLON 2200, MSI KT4V motherboard, nad 512 RAM. And i was planning to get a new 3D Card. Something around or less than 100 US Dollars. I want to have enough VGA Ram to play Command and Conquer Generals, and war of the ring. Should i look for higher ram amount, i.e: 64,128 or go for brand??
Any help or advice is much appreciated!!

for what you are willing to spend, you are looking at something like the radeon 9600 or nvidia 5600. 128mb of video ram is pretty standard these days. the r9600 is probably a better card, but its not going to blow you away with its performance.

in toms vga roundup, they used c&c generals as a benchmark, so you can compare performance for that game. c&c seems to be more processor intensive than graphics card intensive tho. my ti4200 running on a 2.4ghz p4b ran at 1280x720 just fine, and the r9600 scored a few frames higher in their test. i've never played war of the ring, so i couldnt really say anything about performance in that game.

I recommend GeForce4 Ti4200.

And STAY AWAY from FX5600

Up your budget a smidge and get yourself a 9600 PRO with usable DirectX 9 functionality that will last you a while.

Most will overclock to 9600XT spec pretty easily...

But if you can't afford anything more, the Ti4200 is certainly the way to go.

The Ge-Force4 Ti4200's are pretty hard to get hold of right now. The thing you wanna look for is the chipset, for what you wanna play most Radeon or FX graphics cards will suffice. But to be honest I would avoid the Radeon 9200's or FX5200's.
9600 would be a good buy, depending on your budget.

Yes, hail jammydodgers advice! The thing you want to look for is the chipset!

That's like saying when checking out women, you should look at their bodies. FRICKIN DUH!

The FX will suffice to run slowly and look like crap:)

Try to get a 9600 Pro if you can afford it, otherwise, a cheap ti4200.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)
Rachel:): why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?
