Why remove the shim?

People usually dremel a recess into their HSFs if they don't fit. Anything else will run a higher risk of damaging your card.

Lol. Great advice Gen.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)
Rachel:) : why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?

well, what I have done and what others here have done at times in the past, is heat up the core. No, I don't mean put it in the microwave, but you can find a 3D game to play and play it for a few hours. After the core is nice and hot, take the "carpet knife"(hehe)and pop that sucker off. The adhesive will lose viscosity and there ya go....
good luck!

sticking it in a freezer also helps.. its how it got the HSF off my 8500

but condensation can be dangerous, so i dont know how safe this is

friction causes heat, but don't try rubbing it rapidly on the carpet.

Yup, sticking it in the freezer helps also. You can put it in a ziplock back to help prevent the condensation. I always heat up the core by playing for a while first, then it just pops right off. Of course you could always just do a "GW" and "pop" it off...hehe
And don't tell that poor guy to use a hairdryer, he might just do it!...lol
Anyways, good luck man....

I have used a hair dryer on the low setting to remove many a heatsink and other parts that were epoxied on, and I have had absolutely ZERO problems. So, do whatever feels comfortable for you.
P.S. The cursing is uncalled for. If you feel that the only way to express your unbridled emotions is to use profanity to garner the attention of others, then I seriously doubt that anyone with common sense would submerse themselves in the udder depracation of your comments. If you do not have anyting kind to say, then your are only discrediting yourself. Keep your unwarranted and unwanted comments to yourself.

Submersing yourself under the Udder, eh? Too much time on the farm?

Submitting ourselves to the utter priggishness of your comments might lead one to believe that there is no room for any form of deprecation at all, which would be unacceptable in a forum where nimrods and numbnutz abound.

I do agree, however, that we all should, do whatever/whomever feels comfortable..., including telling you to STFU!

Profanity alone does not detract from the wisdom of the words, and those who would discount them for that reason alone are often not as wise as they try to appear. That you couldn't see the truth and sarcasm in his words speaks volumes.

Sarcasm is the only intelligent person's response to irritating stupidity - White

I like that one so much more than your trite proverb.

Hhmmm, I have this overwhelming urge to look up the word pedantic in the dickshunairy, I wonder why? Probably just something I drank. I think I'll go sleep it off.

Spare me the rhetoric. It just so happens, Mr. Forum Veteran, that a while ago, I posted a question here about removing epoxied heatsinks. The reply was to use a hair dryer. So, I did, and I never looked back. It has worked for me many time since. Im not saying that there is anything wrong with cursing, at the right time. This is not one of those time. Dont get your panties in a wad. Jeez! Why dont everyone smoke a bowl and calm the F#%K down.

Spare me the righteous indignation, Mr. Forum Pr1ck, err.. Member!

You're the one who got all bent out of shape at GW's statements, regardless of your history (like anyone cares).

So take your own advice, go take a toke, take the pickle out of your a$$, and STFU!

Although the hairdryer may have worked for some here, I will tell you that I would not do this. There's a chance you may damage other components on your card...but of course it's what I wouldn't do, it's your choice.
Let us know once you get it off, and what means you used to do so.

hahahahahahahahahahahaha, ooohhh, im offended. I see your true colors shining through. You obviously have much to learn. I truly pity you. I am sorry you have such a small penis. People ask for help = bash them for fun. Great forum here guys. Real helpful. To all you other guys who are actually trying to help, thanks and keep up the good work.

Sure, yeah, that's it it's all about the penis.

Well, thank you for confirming just who is the bigger Di¢k.

I feel like less of a Pr1ck already.

And remember you weren't asking for help you were simply providing the useless 'yeah do that' response and then bitching about someone else's reply. Don't set the tone if you are unwilling to receive similar treatment you hypocrite!

As for your help, don't give yourself that much credit, you were helpful, but more as an example of what to avoid doing.
See you're not completely useless, you can always serve the purpose of a warning of what not to do in every aspect of this thread.

If we had avitars here, I'd vote that you be assigned this one.

Or perhaps even this one, both would be apt descriptions.

Now go play with your 'big' P3N1$, you Wanker!
