Not good news for ATI. With the Geforce 6800 Ultra having a full 16 pipes, 32 shader units and priced at $399, plus the liklihood of many models having standard dual DVIs, combine that with their industry gold standard driver support.. all I can do is drool... and stay up until the articles are put online to confirm everything without a doubt.

Old news...

ATI's pushing their X800XT with 16 pipelines and clocked at 600/1200 core/mem. Launching on May 31st.

I guess ATI's gonna need to hope that its 500/1000mhz clocks hold out against the 400+/1200mhz beast from Nvidia with 4 extra pipes.

Marketing buddy..... All about marketing. Of course that one will only have 12 pipeline so they over price the other one. Betcha can softmod the X800 to the X800XT...

I've read that somewhere, saying they're all built on the same core, so maybe it's another R9500.

scottchen that`s what the X800 is, just a heavily modded 9800 which in turn is a modded 9700 with in turn is a modded 9500. So you got 2002 tech in a 2004 card. NV40 is a complete new design. next card will be nVidia (never thought I`d say that!).

Actually the point i was trying to make was that since X800SE, Pro, and XT are based on the same core, you may be able to enable the extra memory bandwidth/pipelines with a soft mod or maybe hard mod. Like the 9500 could be modded to 9700.

Maybe you're in love with Jen-Hsun Huang's wife?

jk...

Well i'm getting the same feeling, since on paper, the Nvidia card seems to kick a$$, yet cost seems reasonable for the non-ultra.

The only thing I'd bet is that they both beat my 9800Pro--->XT (441,378).....Any takers?

I think it's fair to say specs don't tell the whole story. Wait for the reviews. We've been fooled before.

Why is everyone so sure they will be able to softmod the cards to begin with. Would u not think Ati has learned a lesson from the 9500softmod issue.

And to them, I bid them good luck.

But for them unfortunately, its over.
At least the R300 era that put them in such a great position against Nvidia.

Its just a shame they could not get driver quality and longterm support for older products up to par with Nvidia since R300.
They lied to us.

Now is their chance to display that the R300 performance and its offspring was not completely due to the aquisition of ArtX, that they are capable of running their business up to par with Nvidia.
They need to at least do it one more round to gain true respect from Nvidiots like myself.

But they would have to do BOTH, improve driver and legacy software support to NV's level AND maintain the performance lead to create any significant changes in my view on ATI.

I think overall, most all forums feel the way I do.. this ATI biased one does not.. but it is certainly an exception to the rule.

Haven't you seen the [H] benchies?? It's not that great...5-50% performance increase over 9800XT, depending on app. Of course it is the best right now (and considering how impressive the 9800XT is, that means that it is indeed quite good)...seeing as the X800's performance is completely unknown and it's not even available for two more weeks! (not that it will be instantly available, much like how the 6800U isn't 'available' quite yet)

What are you referring to? Its 12:30AM CST time here and none of the big hardware sites have posted any benchmarks yet.

I was basing my numbers off of benchmarks released hours ago that were pulled back down off the net.
