i guess the question is not "if" your computer will crash, it is "when"....

this past week, my office server "went down".. i have no idea why, but after replacing the hard drive, the memory, the video card, and nic card... i am now back up and running...

situation - i use w2k-AS for my server, and w2k-pro-sp2 for my clients...

problem - when i re-installed w2k-AS on the server box, i made sure i named my domain the same as before, and entered all the computer names and user names exactly as they were prior to the crash...

BUT, my clients would not communicate properly.... i had to convert each client from "domain" membership to "workgroup" membership, reboot, and re-connect to the new "domain" network, even though everything seemed to be the same....

does anyone have a "rational" explanation for this....

thx for educating me...

since you did a fresh install of server, the computers that you had before were not registered in the domain.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.
