Seems that everybody is making their own GeForce 6800 thread. Why shouldn't I make mine?

Here's my opinion about GeForce 6800 and upcoming R420 cards.

GeForce 6800 Ultra

- Great perfomance leap from pervious generation NV/ATI cards.
- Very suitable for playing currnet games at 1600 × 1200 resplution with 4x AA
- Still has few weak points, in few games not that faster than ATI. Maybe due to CPU limitaton
- Needs some IQ fix, probably shipping cards with publicly available driver won't have these problems
- Overall, a great card if you have money and adequate PSU.

About uppcoming R420 cards

- X800 Pro shouldn't be far behind. Performance difference maybe like R9500 Pro vs. R9600 Pro
- X800SE will probably won't have chance aginst 12 pipepine GeForce 6800
- X800 XT should be as good as 6800 Ultra or better

Pixel Shader 2.0 vs. 3.0: Seems somewhat PS 1.1 vs 1.3. The thing that matters is PS 2.0 performance, and I think NV doesn't have NV3x generation problems here.

BTW, when should I add GeForce 6800 in my graphics card buyers' guide? Maybe when cards ship, or after X800 Pro review (since it's only less than 2 weeks away)?

You should add the new cards when they are 'in stock' and not when they are only available as pre-order.

Just a suggestion.

BTW, nice thread. We need more like them.

When you can buy a card it should go in the buyer's guide

Might be nice to mention now is a very bad time to buy a graphic's card cause the prices will half when the next generation cards hit the shelves over the next few months.

You'd be a fool to buy a 9800 XT right now.

I doubt many cards will drop in half. 9800XT and FX5950 will drop to half their suggested price though, making them sub $250 cards.

I expect to see bestbuy and compusa offering some big ole rebates soon trying to sell off the current stock of these cards. Rebates draw people in and many people don't mail them, so it's their best option for the big chains. If 9800XT were available for under $200 after rebate, it would be a great buy for those who don't have $400+

R9800XT and FX5950 will be available only for few months. They will never drop below $250

I pitty the fools who are clearing the shelves of them as we speak. $400 for one of those right now. Oh how sad.
