Hi everyone,

I'm posting here because I feel I have a problem with my video card. I'm not 100% sure, however, so I wanted to get your feedback.

Lately, I've had a problem booting my computer in the morning. I use Windows XP Pro, and at random points, the computer screen just goes black. From what I can tell, the computer is still functioning but the display ceases altogether. Sometimes this occurs during bootup, and sometimes it'll happen about a few minutes after I've booted up. In the latter case, I check my email and a couple web sites and POOF, the screen goes black.

The weird thing is, after six or seven reboots, the system will suddenly work fine for the rest of the day until I go to bed. Then I shut it off, and the next morning, the process begins again.

Again, I suspect somethign is wrong with my video card. FYI, it is a GeForce 4 TI 4800. In an attempt to fix this on my own, I went to NVidia's website and downloaded the latest driver for the video card and installed it. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks in advance for the help.

1. Is the card seated properly in the AGP slot?
2. What kind of powersupply do you have and do you have a big enough one?

1. Yes, I have tried reinserting the video card as I've heard that sometimes helps. Unfortunately, didn't work for me.

2. I use a 400V power supply that came with the Antec 1080 case I bought about a year ago.

Do you have another monitor that you can try out?

It's interesting that you ask. I have a dual monitor setup at the moment. I have the feeling this is going to lead somewhere...

Sorry to double post, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this problem? I tried booting up first with just one monitor plugged in, but that didn't seem to change anything.

as someone before me already asked, have you tried with another monitor? it looks to me that it's a monitor problem (especially because after a while it starts working - this could indicate a ...hmmm, i don't know the english expression for it  .. "cold soldering", meaning that a soldering will work after it is heating up. If this is the case, it's easily solved by an electronist with a soldering iron.

Again, sorry if I wasn't so clear, not all of us can whistle carelessly Springsteen's "Born in the USA"
