Hello,

Every time I download an excel document from our reports website I get a "Open & Repair" error message. I have to save the document and repair it before opening. Any ideas why? And how to fix this?

It maybe an incompatibility issue if the documents are in Office 2003 or earlier format.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Update Office 2007 with windows update, this is a normal problem and is fixed with an Office update.

Hi,

Had done that. No changes.

The error message I get from Excel is:

"Excel found unreadable content in "XXXX.xls". Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook? If you trust..."

After the repair the message is:

"Excel recovered your formulas and cell values, but some data may have been lost."

Is this a common problem?

Nope, sounds to me like a problem with the way the document is formatted. Maybe look for some advice on the official Office forums.
