The author signed NDA document so he can`t speak about details but he said that, from what ATI showed on their benchmarks, R420 seems to be MUCH stronger than NV40

They're talking about the pro version or XT version? Well it's HL2, I mean it's obvious ATI's gonna perform better, it's just like Nvidia bragging about Doom3. Let's just wait 'til the 4th and compare the X800Pro with 6800Ultra. I said compare with the ultra is because let's leave the X800XT to compare with the 6800Ultra 512mb.

From what I read it sounds asif they are refering to the X800Pro.

HL2 was programmed to run straight DX9...nothing IHV specific, unlike Doom III, which uses NV "special features"..

If I'm not mistaken, HL2 is a "ATI Get in the Game", game.
Alot like TWIMTBP, ATI works with the game developer to ensure performance across the entire line of ATI GPUs.

So, if anything, HL2 will be optimized for ATI.. I dont know what to think of Valve and their claims because they've discredited themselves many times... BUT, supposedly they spent 5x as much time optimizing for NV30 cards (I just dont believe this).
Heck, it cant be true because they claimed thats what caused the delays.. well, now we know that the fricken game isnt even CLOSE to being done, this is proven not by the beta leak which showed that all the killer AI was indeed simple scripting. But we didnt need the beta to prove that the game was far from finished, all we needed was the delays themselves!

But of course, they point to the leak as security issues so they had to rewrite the game.. even though the beta release just HAPPENED to be 1/10th complete itself.
Blah.

Gabe Newell was quoted as saying that it "might slip into '05"... then he retracted that statement saying it was "hypothetical, that we'd let it slip to ensure a even more kickass experience to knock your socks off later"...

I dunno, but all HL2 news should be discredited from the get go due to Valve and Newells recent history.

I'm not sure if HL2 is a "get in the game" game or not, as you can tell.. I really dont care! :tongue:

you sure missed a lot! I expected something impressive but I was shocked and stunned. Even fell in love after seeing the Dawn demo with the nude patch

. I run the Ultra version at 1600x1200 with 4xAA... Oh, MY, GOD... Even Far Cry visuals do not come close to how great THIS looks. If you saw Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and were mesmerized, well, Dawn looks better. Dusk kicks even more ass, but there is no working nude patch for her that I know of. :evil:

Stingy people end up paying double. One kick-ass rig that will go strong for three years or one half-decent one every year?

At the time I wrote that, I was on a Ti4200, since then, I've had a 5700Ultra, a 9600XT, and now I'm using an R9800. I've ran Dawn(nude) on NV hardware, and ATi hardware....it look's alot better on ATi IMHO...

Looks like their next demo is a Hairy Gorilla with static electricity issues!

Oh well, I guess the hot chick thing has been done, and I have no interest in seeing dudes, so I guess go with what you know. But it would be nice to have an ATI 'Varga Girl' that it could put on display. Red hair would be a nice touch too. :evil:
