okay guys...6800Ultra VS X800pro is nothing compare to what we are about to face. Statistics by Coolsquirtle shows that 3-4% of all the members is actually going to shell out 399.99$ US for a piece of silicon and bling bling. the other 96% of you are after mainstream cards.
So people, the battle hasn't started. The REAL battle would be between X600pro and 6700Ultra. If either company wins this market segment, they win all. Also we ALL know XGI is going to release something that'll crush ATi and nVidia ;)

I'm curious as to how the new midrange cards will stack up to a R9700Pro or R9800 pro. If the new $200 cards can't at least match these, then I'll be dissapointed. If so, grab a $200 R9800pro while you can get a good one.

These new cards will probably all using 128bit memory bandwidth, so they'll still be no comparison to the 9800pro.

The RV380 struggled against an R9600XT with similar clocks. But they will increase the core and memory somewhat, but I don't expect much from the initial release. The RV380 is ready to go. So far I've only seen talk of the FX5700U w/ GDDR3 as it's competitor (NV37 simply being the PCX version, and not really being a new core), the midrange part seems a while off. Of course they could GF6800XT their top of the line part again, but I doubt they want to go down that road again.

I'm interested (from a purely info point of view, not to purchase, Eww!) in what the RV370 has to bring to the table as it will be ATI's first 0.11 part according to most roadmaps. It will also be their first real entry level DX9 part (replacing the R9200 series, and in some ways the R9600SE). nV's NV43 which is to replace the FX5700 series should will likely offer greater performance than anything from the current RV380 configuration if it's a truely new part with the intention of beating the FX5700. This will go up against the RV410, which is still sketchy.

Even as bullet points, the PS/VS 3.0 support will likely entice many buyers, in the same way it did for the FX5200 series. Also OEMs will flock to that. The length of time 'til the NV42 hits means that there will be two new part for that low-end entry segment.

This segment is where the money is won or lost so expect alot of competition, and if there seems to be huge competitive disadvantages by either side expect cut-down cards like the R9500PRO and FX5900XT/SE to be the response of the participant in the underdog position.

Actually I think NV would have prefered to ditch the 5700 Ultra and continue with the 5900XT since the 5900XT is cheaper to make and sells for a higher markup resulting in better profits in comparison. I suspect they chose to continue with the 5700 Ultra because it's the more technologically advanced hardware and would have looked pretty bad for them to ditch the more advanced piece to go with the more profitable piece that was a cheaper remake of older tech. Not to mention they were probably pressured by their retail partners to have more support towards the 5700Ultra since they had already invested in them and would other wise never get rid of them if the 5900XT continued.

The X800SE will be using the 128bit bus, and considering its suggested speeds it will be easily beatable by the 9800Pro.

BTW, <b>CoolS</b>, you forgot the PCI-EX cards, even if you don't want to talk about them!
MMMMMmmmm X880XT all the way baby!
Unless of course the RV380 is anywhere near what they said it would be (equal to the R9800), or the NV45/43 are also attractive.

So if I get the X800XT does that make me like even more rare than the top 1%?
WooHoo, that's better than my LSATs and my SATs!

Now, THIS was cool! (I love this song!)

And, BTW, ENVY me! I am buying one of those cards once it is celar which one is the best. The only decision I will have to make is whether to wait for the full, integrated PCI-E support or get the AGP8x version...

Hehe  it was an innocent typo LOL. Now THAT has nothing to do with English. "<font color=red>Your</font color=red> a smart man", however, IS a grammar problem!
