Radeon 9600 Pro Will Not Work With Catlyst 3.9

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having with my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb. The card runs fine with the ATI drivers that came with it, it's just everytime I try using the catalyst 3.9 or 3.10 drivers Windows XP doesn't recognise them and resets the driver to the generic one. Could this be a software or hardware issue?

AMD Athlon XP 1900+
784Mb Pc2100 Ram
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256Mb
Gigabyte GA-7VT600
Windows XP with Service Pack 1

Did you just replace your card? Could be some left over Nvidia or other driver causing havoc. Does it work with the new 4.1 cat's or any older ones?
