opens with

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support (More info?)

please help, everything is opening with notepad-add/remove-system restore,
etc..
I have tried everything including downloading file association fixes at the
doug knox website but after i extracted the files and tried to run or open
them they
opened with...you guessed it...NOTEPAD.
