I was going to buy a 9800 pro and my mother board only has 4x agp will this significantly limit the porfromance of a 9800 pro?

The difference between AGP 8x and 4x is 99% marketing and 1%performance (in case of high end cards). In case of mid-range/entry cards it's one hundred percent marketing bullshit. Made especially for John Average, who, between a GF FX 5200 and a Radeon 9000 Pro, choses the FX5200, because it's AGP 8x

Go with the 9800Pro and don't even bother about the 8x AGP... you'll get that later with a MB upgrade, just to be surprised that there's almost no difference.

The same goes about PCI Express, at least with the upcoming cards. Later, after 1-2 years, who knows, it might be worth an upgrade.... Just that right now, the bottleneck is not the AGP speed.
