I was just wondering if it would be worth it for me to upgrade to the 9800 Pro as prices have dropped. My concern is that, with only a 4x AGP mobo, would it be wirth the money to upgrade from a 9600XT.

And I know new cards are out in a couple days, but I'm not looking at spending 500 USD for a new card. 9800 Pros can be found here in Canada for 299 or less.

Spec:
Intel P4 2.4B
MSI 645E Max-U Mobo
1GB DDR333
R9600XT 128MB
SB Live 5.1
WD 60GB
Maxtor 120GB
LG DVD+-R/RW
WIN2K PRO SP4

AGP 8x is a marketing buzzword, there is virtually no difference in performance between AGP 4X and 8X in games.

Keep your 9600XT and wait for X800 or GeForce 6800 to enter the market, you might be able to find better deals or get lower clocked X800/6800 for this price (299$CA).

You actually have a very good card that will run Doom 3 / HL2 fast, so upgrading it'S kind of wasting money... But if you live near Montreal and want to sell you 9600XT, ask me, I might be interested to buy it from you!

The 9800 Pro is what, 15% faster than a 9600XT? Of course there are probably some benchmarks out that that would give it more. I don't think the upgrade is worth the money.

I'd suggest you try waiting until the new cards are in your price range before upgrading, so you'll get a more noticable increase in performance.

If you use AA and AF, or high resolutions, it's a huge difference.

If you don't and play yourt games at 1024x768, there's not nearly as much difference.

Either way, at this point it's best to wait for the X800's to be introduced as prices will likely drop a bit in the next month ort two.
