I dont know if I'm imagining it but I could have sworn that many people in this forum reckon the Geforce Ti4200 is better than the Geforce FX5200? Is that true? If so, what gives?

PC Spec: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ running at 1.25ghz, ECS K7S5A Motherboard, 768MB SDRAM PC133, Sparkle nVidia Riva TNT2 M64 32MB AGP Graphics Card, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 6.1, Windows Me

Yes, it's true. A newer card isn't always better.

Abit IS7 @ 275 FSB, OCZ PC4200 RAM @ 550Mhz, P4 2.4 @ 3.3Ghz Vcore @ 1.625, Sapphire Radeon 9800P @ 410/780.
Thermalright SLK-947U, P3 HS @ NB.

Yes, it's true.

The 5200 is slow. It's the bottom of the FX line.

The Ti4200 is fast. It was based on Nvidia's flagship Geforce4 Ti4600.

The 5200 has a few more capabilities than the Ti4200, but it's too slow to use them.

You will see everything! GeForce FX 5200 are one of the worst low-end card nVidia ever made.

The FX5200 is nVidia's replacement for the GeForce4 MX440SE. Both are crappy cards.

The FX5600 is nVidia's replacement for the TI4200. The FX5600U is the replacement for the TI4400. etc.
