So I finally have money to buy a new computer part, and I want a video card. I have about $215 and I was going to get the 9800Pro but I decided to get a chain for my scooter that has been broken for 2 years. So now I only have about $120. I know thats not enough to really buy anything, but how much of a performance difference is there between the 9600Pro, 9700Pro, and 9800Pro? And how long will it be before these cards become obsolete? If there's not a huge difference between the 9800 and 9600 I will just go with the 9600.

You paid too much for your chain. I used to buy my motorcycle supplies from discount catalogs and mount them myself. Chains are easy.

Lol..yeah, this is like a mini scooter though, and the chain is like custom made or something. I don't know, I'll just be glad to get it running again. 9600Pro it is. Maybe I'll be able to play FarCry now! Instead of just seeing a bunch of pictures while trying to play with my FX5200!

FX5200!? Ouch!

If you want to see the performance difference between 9600 and 9800 I recommend you look at Toms graphs (3 articles done).

About how early 9600 will become obsolete ... I would say 6 months :frown: Looking at the performance of newcomers, mid-range GPU will be much more powerfull that 9600 series (my guess).

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

Wou will not have problem with FarCray/9600PRO. I have a Radeon 8500 and I can run FarCry in 800x600 at medium quality and I have decent frame-rate (between 30 and 100, depends on the situation/action).

Mini scooter probably uses one of those short pitch chains like so many go-carts used to use, I'd get one from my local lawnmower repair shop!
