Just got a Gigabyte radeon 9600pro, downloaded catalyst 4.3, everything runs great until I start up a game, sometimes it won't even start before the computer locks up completely, other times I can play for 5 minutes before it happens...but the games run perfect when they do run, its happened with about 5 different games now, I run an Athlon 2500, 512ddr, asus 8V7X-X (or whatever) motherboard, before this card I had a PCI geforce2 400mx, which I hadn't uninstalled the drivers for until after I started experiencing the problems with the 9600pro but unless theres other nvidia stuff hiding somewhere, its all uninstalled, I was thinkin that mighta been the problem, but I dunno. Maybe I could try a different driver, if so where would I get it, I think ati.com only has the most recent catalyst drivers, I would really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions, don't want my 140 dollars invested into the darn thing to be a complete waste :P I'll check for replies this evening...thanks.

Try Detonator Destroyer to remove the last pieces of your old NVidia driver:

Well, I tried something new and it worked for UT2004 demo anyhow, it no longer locks up, but neverwinter nights still does :P I slid the AGP bar to 4x rather than 8x, though I think it went back to 8 later for whatever reason, i'm on windows 98, right now, I'm thinking about reformatting completely and getting windows XP, even though I don't like it. Windows 98 is the VCR and XP is the DVD player it seems like now days...I tried installing those omega drivers, but they just didn't work, not sure why...I'm still gonna try a few more thuings...any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Also try disabling VPU recovery and Fastwrites.

That caused me problems. FW is in the same Smartgart tab as the AGP slider.
