Can we have reason as why you put the 6800 as the best buy...

-Still iq problem
-Performance suck in farcry with forced 2.0 path...
-Only beat Ati in old game or in game using Q3 engine...

I dont get it...

Athlon 2700xp+ (oc: 3200xp+ with 200fsb) , Radeon 9800pro (oc: 410/360) , 512mb pc3200 (5-3-3-2), Asus A7N8X-X
Edited by coylter on 05/05/04 05:54 PM.

ATI sucks in CoD, NV in FarCry. Performance difference in other games are ignorable.

PS 3.0, Hardware MPEG Encoding support gives nvidia feature advantage

I didn't bother to check IQ screenshots with my 33.6k dial-up. Are they as bad as GF-FX vs. Radeon 9800?

The IQ comparison's similar, except in Far Cry and Generals, the thing is ATI wins in all test with AF, or AA/AF.

Hah! Immature, ok for this card, maybe, but for the whole line far from it. Where is all this great nV driver recovery? Seriously, that would be fine if these weren't TWIMTB-Pooped games. No excuse for immature drivers there, and in many cases this was the latest (2nd set) of drivers for the GF6800, and nothing chaged except for jumps in performance that brought other questions.
Why don't ATI supposed terrible drivers experience these same issues, even when reviewers use the old 4.4 Catalysts?

When that happens people will be using it to shine their A$$, because the NV50 and R500 will destroy it. You show me one PS3.0 based game (not just a minor tweak of PS2.0 game) to launch in the near future and then I'd grant you that. The only thing that might come close to that would be the D]|[ and that's OGL so the limitations aren't as rigid as D3DX, I doubt even then the benifits would be as architecture based as they are extension and optimization based.

Right now I don't think anyone can pick a CLEAR winner. Both sides have their benifits. And there is no way that an Ultra nor an XTP are 'BEST BUYS', both OC terribly compared to their slightly lower brethren. Sure they are monsters, but I'd wait for the non-platinum XT, and for the price of the Ultras to actually solidify.

I find it funny that you still can't get a GF6800, but it's alrady part of a buyers' guide. But hey, if a change is needed so be it.

However like early FX5600Ur2 vs R9600P reviews I could show you as many reviews favouring one as the other. I'd really like to see the defence of the choice of either, beyond the idea that they are better deals than people want for 5950Us and R9800XTs.

You might not like the methods used in HardOCP's review's, but considering we have more apples to apples tests (not digging into possible driver flops) at so many other sites, I like that Kyle shows just what real world settings these cards can game at compared to other cards. Looking at his review Here, I'd say the playable settings on the 6800U are far lower than on the X800XTpe.

I'd also say it makes sense that the the X800pro should be the best buy in high end over $300 range as it is the only one that can be purchased immediately. Plus it OC's well, save $100 too. Then check into the $500 cards when they hit the shelves.

I'll go look into your updates more now. I just had to comment on the 6800U best buy thingy.

No, it's not.

I think $300+ buyers' always look for the best, not better performer for money card (e.g. X800 Pro)

I've removed "best buy" from $300+ section, since it's controversial unlike other sections. Let the buyer decide based on + and - points of each card

I'm not an ATI fanboy, I'm just a NV nonfanboy. If there were more than 2 companys in the running I might use something besides ATI, but I still wouldn't use NV.
