Hi to everybody,

I need some help to identify the GPU I have bought. It is a Geforce 4200 Ti with 64Mb of Hynix 4ns memory. It does NOT have the DVI output, just the VGA and the two video outs.

PCB is green as well as the HSF, and the fan is labeled as "Millennium". It is everything almost exactly as this one:

I have look at all markings of the card, no one seems to say anything usefull. No brand name, no model, I am lost. Could anyone help me? Thanks!!!

The GPU is a Geforce 4 Ti.

Ok, you are right. I already know the GPU, but no idea about brand and model. And I care because:

1.- I want to download specific drivers instead of nvidia generic ones.
2.- It's kind of challenge for me (and anyone that want to join! :wink: ). How the hell they produce a GPU without any reference?!
3.- Tons of curiosity

I'm having a look around, but your board looks exactly like the nvidia Reference Ti4200 that was used in all the early reviews I've seen so far - I'm just trying to find one that tells exactly what the RAM is. if it's 4ns like yours, then I guess it must be an Nvidia Reference board...
Which would actually mean the 'generic' drivers ARE the official ones.... :smile:

There's absolutely no reason to download specific brand's drivers over nVidias. In fact, for your card, you should use some older nvidia drivers, like the 50.xx or so. Ask Phial, he had a Ti4200. The newest drivers are total crap for these cards IQ wise.

Well, I found an old <A HREF="http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ti4200oc/default.asp" target="_new">Firing Squad Overclocking Article</A> which says:

Which suggests that their reference board did indeed have 4ns Hynix RAM.

Well, I never thought about it ... this card comes as part of a package of several components (this GF4, two TV tunners, one sound card, etc). I have bought it at www.eBay.de, so I suppose it might be ... a reviewer selling all the old staff???

Anyway, any idea of how to identify a reference card? Tonight I tell you all information of the graphic card (now I am at work).

Here is all information I have from the GPU. About memory:

Hynix 229A
HY5DV641622AT-4 (so it is rated 250Mhz DDR)

Front of the card:
- two lines togheter:
nvida
180-10085-0000-A03
- This one is bigger:
N1996
- And the last one:
8879 VER:10A

Back of the card:
- One paper with something like two codes or references:
20096589 2900101858
- Another one:
UMT:2MV 94V-0
- And the last one:
MS-88790209043825

I have tried to look most numbers at google, but none of them seems clear to me. Does this data means anything to you?

I'd just use the NVidia 4403 or 4523 drivers and enjoy the card. On that card I can't why you wouldn't use the generic's.

I just thought that manufacturer drivers can always be "tweaked", but probably not to much. Right now I have 43.51, but I will try the ones you have suggested.

OK, nothing concrete here... but

The part I highlighted in bold comes up (repeatedly) against a Micro-star Geforce 4 Ti4200 64Mb card, if you google on just that bit.

So it looks like you might have a MSI board buddy. I've tried to find a picture of an MSI Ti4200 board to see if they stick close to the reference design, but no luck so far..

I would have to agree with everyone else that there's no point using particular drivers over the nvidia ones. They're more likely to restrict you or lower performance than anything else.

Well, just confirm that it is a MSI graphic card. At least the identification utility provided by MSI says so, and even detects BIOS as "latest version". I doubt it would recognize a board from another manufacturer, so I suppose it is a MSI.
