Hi all
I have an Assault pcb that resets about every 20-30 minutes, I have looked
over the boards for corrosion, broken legs on caps, and reseated all the
socket chips. I adjusted my power supply to +5 volts at the pcb connector. I
also cleaned the board to board connectors and the Pcb edge connector.
The only tools I own are a soldering iron and de-soldering iron.
Will changing the caps possibly fix this ?
What more can I do, after googling this to death I am out of ideas for the
tools and now-how that I have ?

Rob, try skipping the board to board connector in the back and plugging
the JAMMA cable straight into the PCB. I doubt this will solve your
problem, but it will eliminate the verticle board connector as a
possible problem. Mo

Hi Mo
I Should have mentioned in my original post that this is just a 2 pcb stack
(no cabinet).
Anybody else have any tips for trouble shooting a Namco system 2 pcb that
resets every 20 - 30 minutes ?
thanks for your input though Mo : )

No problem, sorry I couldn't be more help. It does sound like
something is overheating though, although John must have posted before
he could read your post about it not being in a cab. I would say this
is a problem that a tech will have to look at. Not worth the cost of
repair in my mind. I'd sell it on ebay and buy a working one off this
newsgroup. The thing about that game is the darn joysticks are
impossible to find in good condition. Most people are forced to use
topfire 4 ways (as I just replaced the one I'm selling). Anyway, good
luck and let me know if you want to buy the whole machine in MD!

Thanks John,
I tryed it in another cab that has a jamma extion thats long enough for the
pcb to be outside the cab and it still resets : (

Hi Mo
I would jump at the chance to get your Assault, but it is just to far away
for me. If I wasn't between jobs right now I would probably just bite the
bullet and pay for shipping as this is my second all time favourite game
next to Race Drivin'. I know what you mean about the joy's are extremely
hard to find but my search will continue. I hate to admit it but this board
problem is looking to be something that a tech is going to have to fix.
Thanks again : )

Good news : )
After adjusting my power supply to 4.8 volts, It hasn't reset in about 3
hours now. I guess this is one of those pcbs that needs just the right
amount of power. kind of like the SNK Victory Road pcb that I own, as it
will only work with 5.3 volts, Any less and allot of the graphics will
disappear. Most of the boards that I own will except any ware from 4.8 - 5.2
volts and still work perfect.
Can any Assault owners out there tell me what there board voltage runs well
at. As I would like to know if this is normal for this pcb or not.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, And I hope that the next board
problem that you have gets solved as easy as this one did : )
