Anybody have any idea on this incredibly annoying problem?
I am trying to network 2 computers using D-link kit. I have everything hooked up right. My first computer is WinMe, the second is win98. Last night I got the computers to communicate for the first time after I used TCP and IP adresses 192.168.1.1 subset 255.255.255.0 and 192.168.1.2 and same subset. At first they wouldn't recognize and then I stopped zone alarm and all worked well. Today I boot the [-peep-] up and again each computer shows itself in the network but can't find the other. They won't ping. Zone alarm is uninstalled. Today I installed Netbeui and they still didn't work. any ideas? D-link support is essentially worthless as they have a toll line and expect you to wait 1 hour on the line. No email response in 3 days.
MBO, I'm having some D-link problems also. I'm runnning 2 WIN98 computers, a p2 350 and a 1 GHZ Athlon. Sometimes they will find each other on the network and sometimes they won't. Can you tell me where to set the TCP and IP addresses on the network. It might be that you cannot set them with WIN98 (original). Thanks
I would uninstall your tcp/ip stack and any other protocols along with zone alarm (in other words start over). Reinstall TCP/IP and Netbui. Set the IPs and Subnets and unbind TCP/IP to file and print sharing and Client for MSN. Then bind Netbui to file and print sharing and Client for MSN. Make sure they have the same workgroup name and if that's still giving you problems at look at the hardware..
