Man that Colourless is one crafty dude. Didn't he just make that benchmarker like a month ago?

Anywhoo, any nice new demo will be fun, especially if there's an UN-wrapper.

Have you tried it? Can you download the demo from ATI? I saw the movies, but what about the demo?

Just tried it, man just KILLED my card at times on Default settings (1024x768, 4X multisample) even though I had my FSB at 137 and the R9600P running at 500/350(700). Highest FPS (using FRAPS) was about 20fps and lowest was LONG periods of 0-1fps, ncluding up to 5 second gaps. Even with the lower supposed shader IQ, it's much better looking than even the Quicktime movie.

At lower resolution I got about 35fps max with 800x600 1X and 50fps with 640x480 1x. In all resolution/settings I still got large dead zones, especially where she enters the room to the point where she exchanges items (can't see her lips move at any res),although the segments are less and less common and not as long as the resolutions dropped. Of course the ATI logo gets you like 250fps at the end with 6x480, but that doesn't count. Looks good though.

I would think those of you with R9700 and 9800 cards should do well, especially if you have over 512mb of system memory and the 256mb versions of the cards.

And yes you can download the demo from ATI. Be sure to follow the instructions from Colourless' readme file and put the extracted file in the right spot.

Give it a run, lemme know what you experience with your R9800P, your memory is the same as mine, and your CPU is a little better. Should be far better on your setup.

edit : I AM RUNNING IT WITH 25FPS IN 1280*1024 !!!!!

thanks, I'll have to try it. Sure is a quick download from ATI, gotta love that. Must have been under 2 minutes for you at work unless I am near their max myself.

The R9800 pro has been in this system for a while as I had installed farcry and needed to finish it before pulling the card. SO hopefully the little extra cpu speed and 1GB ram (compared to my sig.) will help a bit even though my R9800P is only the 128MB version. I'll use Fraps too and let you know But with your fps results, my hopes aren't very high. Just still gotta try it though. So I can run Dawn's demo on this system too huh? Never tried that, wrapped or unwrapped.

Well Paul, I have an XP2100+ running at 2.06ghz, 768mb of pc2100, and a 9800 overclocked to the gills, and I'm getting between 20-50fps. Smooth. High quality texture settings in control panel, AA & AF set to app pref, and demo running at default(which I'm assuming is 1024X768. I have my agp size at 256. this screenshot show's my fps, which is about what I'm getting on average.

Funny thing is that those very same scenes I was getting the same frames , it's other areas that killed the card. Also supposedly more memory helps, but I have no doubt that the R9800 does this very well, the 9600 just can't quite make it there, hampered by both 1/2 the pipes and 1/2 the memory width.

Oh well, it's good enough anyways, and shows pretty good quality.

Would be nice not to get the drops to 0 though.

BTW, anyone whose audio is off is likely losing frames too.

Oh well, just have to wait for the X880 and the A64, then, THEN my friend, we shall see!

Well that depends on what comes out 'soon'. Still waiting for the socket 939 solution (and I'd prefer a DDR+DDR2 rig too) and PCI-Ex (plus good onboard would be nice).

Funny thing is just today I was getting ready for some cleaning, upgrading and moving things about and decided to do something I believe I mentioned before;

My Ode to 2001 THGC/GrapeApe style

The DualAMDXP rig (a little dusty)

The Gaming Rig

The main thing is that I'm 'OK' for power right now, but I really do want to move to a new setup because I know I could be getting MORE. Like I said in Scammy's thread in the OTHER forum, what I'd love is one of THESE without the need for registered ram, and a few PCI-EX slots thrown in (Mmmm SCSI AND Raid SATA x 4, SchweEet!). Then I could feel like I could dedicate myself to just one computer, well one 'desktop' computer. Even when it aged, then I could dedicate it editing where it would likely still outperform future hyperthreaded single procs.

Oh well, for now I am willing to wait a while, but it is getting to be a bit of a LONG wait considering I was looking to do a quicky upgrade last year that would've added dual channel DDR and a few other nice goodies, which I put off knowing that the AMD64 was around the corner. Man I hate waiting!

I don't know, but the K8SPRO (S2882) I saw priced for $999 in Toronto. It's only dual though, but not bad. It is an interesting concept, but really TYAN boards are expensive. GOOD, but expensive! But it's worth it for that AWESOME 8mb of integrated FireGL grapchics! Now that's POWER!

I will look again when the 939 socket solutions hit the market in a month or so, I think the Opteron board will remain 940 socket though, which means registered memory for that route. Not sure about the future of DDR2 for these mobo seither.

BTW, PhuckFace, yeah I know, that's why I was opening them up and moving them around. Alberta is dry and hence dusty. That's build-up since X-mas break. I clean my gaming rig more often, but that's because I'm on it more often and less stuff to unplug etc., whereas the editing rig requires alot of work to unplug and then dismount from the IKEA workstation. Hey, least I do clean it, and it's not dust bunnied, just a layer of dust, not ballz of it.

yeah i got two old school servers "donated" to me and i opened them up and wow, i could actually take a 1/2" layer of dust off everything.

well i cleaned them up and (dual pII 333mhz cpu's running 512 mem in both and M$ windows server 2003) use them as ftp servers.

Hey!!...Ruby is a benchmark also!!
Add -debug to the Ruby shortcut and press B any time while the demo is running. It will automaticaly restart in benchmark mode, and give you the results afterwards!
It tells you the min, avg, and max FPS...here's mine.
Benchmark range = 4.27, 29.24, 129.09
So my average was 29 frames per second.
Schweet

The final Ruby wrapper is finished, and it is amazing. Colourless "multi-passed" the large shaders so that the demo can be viewed on R3xx hardware, with very little loss of detail. The difference between the two patches huge.
