Just tried it, man just KILLED my card at times on Default settings (1024x768, 4X multisample) even though I had my FSB at 137 and the R9600P running at 500/350(700). Highest FPS (using FRAPS) was about 20fps and lowest was LONG periods of 0-1fps, ncluding up to 5 second gaps. Even with the lower supposed shader IQ, it's much better looking than even the Quicktime movie.

At lower resolution I got about 35fps max with 800x600 1X and 50fps with 640x480 1x. In all resolution/settings I still got large dead zones, especially where she enters the room to the point where she exchanges items (can't see her lips move at any res),although the segments are less and less common and not as long as the resolutions dropped. Of course the ATI logo gets you like 250fps at the end with 6x480, but that doesn't count. Looks good though.

I would think those of you with R9700 and 9800 cards should do well, especially if you have over 512mb of system memory and the 256mb versions of the cards.

And yes <A HREF="http://www.ati.com/developer/demos/rx800.html" target="_new">you can download the demo from ATI</A>. Be sure to follow the instructions from Colourless' readme file and put the extracted file in the right spot.

Give it a run, lemme know what you experience with your R9800P, your memory is the same as mine, and your CPU is a little better. Should be far better on your setup.

DUDE its actullay running pretty well on my r9800pro with 1024*768 no multisampling...20-30fps.....sound is out of synch but i can see the visual goodies...

edit : I AM RUNNING IT WITH 25FPS IN 1280*1024 !!!!!

I'm running the demo at default settings, without aa/af turned on. I'm not running fraps to check framerates, but it's pretty damn smooth. I'm stoked.

thanks, I'll have to try it. Sure is a quick download from ATI, gotta love that. Must have been under 2 minutes for you at work unless I am near their max myself.

The R9800 pro has been in <A HREF="http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2277655" target="_new"> this system</A> for a while as I had installed farcry and needed to finish it before pulling the card. SO hopefully the little extra cpu speed and 1GB ram (compared to my sig.) will help a bit even though my R9800P is only the 128MB version. I'll use Fraps too and let you know But with your fps results, my hopes aren't very high. Just still gotta try it though. So I can run Dawn's demo on this system too huh? Never tried that, wrapped or unwrapped. :tongue:

Well Paul, I have an XP2100+ running at 2.06ghz, 768mb of pc2100, and a 9800 overclocked to the gills, and I'm getting between 20-50fps. Smooth. High quality texture settings in control panel, AA & AF set to app pref, and demo running at default(which I'm assuming is 1024X768. I have my agp size at 256. <A HREF="http://server6.uploadit.org/files/geneticweapon-Ruby.jpg.jpg" target="_new">this</A> screenshot show's my fps, which is about what I'm getting on average.

Funny thing is that those very same scenes I was getting the same frames , it's other areas that killed the card. Also supposedly more memory helps, but I have no doubt that the R9800 does this very well, the 9600 just can't quite make it there, hampered by both 1/2 the pipes and 1/2 the memory width.

Oh well, it's good enough anyways, and shows pretty good quality.

Would be nice not to get the drops to 0 though.

BTW, anyone whose audio is off is likely losing frames too.
