When I run 3DMark03 Pro the program loads and runs the first game test then the program exits and returns to desktop. The program will not begin the second game test.
No error codes are logged by 3DMark03 or by Windows Event Viewer. I am trying to run the default tests. My graphics card driver is set to use 3D default settings.
I am trying to test my bba 9700Pro with the latest Catalyst driver.
System:
P4 3.06
Intel 850E

WinXP Pro
Tech support at FutureMark has ignored my request for assistance. They insist the information I am looking for is in their FAQ page.
I posted a message on their community forum and had no serious replies.
I have spent a couple hours searching the FAQ database and Forums at FutureMark but I have not found any helpful information.
Also try disabling, VPU revory, Fastwrites, and make sure everything is running at stock (at least until one solid run).
I am surprised you're not getting much but crash to desktop, but I did have that happen with high overclocks, either crash to desktop or lock-up.
Anywhoo, just some suggestions, don't really know though. It would be nice if they game you a hint of WHERE in the Faq, like "See FAQ section about version" or something.

Everything is at stock speed and default settings.
I tried disabling VPU recovery and Fastwrites but the problem still occured.
I have the latest version of 3DMark03. Version 340.
It must be a rare problem because I can't find much info about the program exiting to desktop.
I clean out the case interior and change my intake air filter every three months.
My system runs at 40C idle and 50C full load.
I am 99% sure it's not an overheating problem.
No it is not dependent on the second game.
I can choose to start the test with the second game and 3DMark03 will exit to desktop at the end of the second game.
It seems to be a problem with the the program itself.
I beginning to suspect 3DMark03 may have an issue with HT enabled P4's.
I am getting annoyed with FutureMark because it appears they do not want to address the problem I am experiencing.
I did read about issues with 3Dmk and HT, but that was for rigs running Win2K, not XP.
Sorry, couldn't be of anymore help.
Stupid that they wouldn't point you in the right direction at least. Jerks!

I get the crash to the desktop without error report sometimes also....when I overclock my front side bus too far, or tweak my ram latencies too aggressively. I would try benchmarking with only one stick of ram in, and see if that helps. You have a 512, and a 256mb stick....use the 256mb stick.

I'm using RDRAM. It can only be used in pairs.
I'm also using an Intel motherboard D850EMVR. FSB is not user adjustable and memory timings are set by SPD.
I'm using Samsung RDRAM PC1066. No errors are logged using Memtest86.
I could take out two 128MB RIMM's but the last time I adjusted the physical memory I ended up calling Microsoft because the Office registration was voided.
I finally received a reply from FutureMark. It was short. They asked me to uninstall and reinstall the video driver.
I suppose it's worth a shot. However I don't think that is the problem.
Damn, sorry to hear about all the problems this is giving you. Keep chipping away at it though...you'll get it figured out

I'm still having the same problem.
3DMark03 Pro runs one test then the program exits to desktop. No error reports generated.
I ripped out my BBA 9700Pro and replaced it with a BBA 9800XT.
I uninstalled all the ATi software using the ATi Uninstall All tool. Then I removed all registry entries pointing to ATi.
I installed the 9800XT using the CD ROM that came with the card. I bought the BBA retail version of the 9800XT.
After installing the software from the CD-ROM I ran 3DMark03Pro and the problem still occured.
I updated the video driver to Catalyst 4.5 specifically following the ATi installation instructions and I still have the same problem with 3DMark03.
Question
Has anyone been able to use 3DMark03 on system loaded with WinXP Pro and an HT enabled P4 CPU?
I have had no problems running 3dmark03 with XP pro and an HT P4.
You are getting booted to the desktop exactly like overclockers do. I know you are running default speeds, but still. I had this same issue with 3dmark01 on a refurbished motherboard. Turned out it was the mobo chipset heating up, it was an NF2 and it couldn't run at a 200(400) bus speed.
I'd go into your bios and set that fsb from 533 down to 400 and underclock the card. If the problem goes away, then your CPU or chipset could be heating up, or your memory timings might be off. That is what I would try at this point. I can't imagine it's the hyperthreading as I have run 3dmark03 on many XP Pro/P4C HT systems without any issues.
Otherwise, I'd give the cpu and memory a 1 notch boost in voltage. Not sure if your mobo will let you do this. But as OC'ers know, sometimes all it takes to get complete stability is a little more juice.
Reinstall windows or format your drive. That's the only thing left to do it seems like.
Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too Rachel: why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?
Re-install the intel agp drivers, then re-install the cats, then re-install directx, then re-install the latest version of 3D mark (with patch, or install patch after). If that doesn't work un-install 3D mark and install aquamark, and be greatfull you are not a future mark.
I'll give Aquamark a try.
I'm not having any problems with my computer.
At this time it's not worth reinstalling Windows or reformatting because I have a problem with one program that has no immediate impact on how I use my computer.
Same old problem. Runs one test and exits to desktop.
I received another reply from FutureMark. They said it was wrong to install the Catalyst software from the CD-ROM that came with my new ATi Radeon 9800XT.
I still haven't seen any error reports.
Windows doesn't crash.
DirectX has no errors or problems with installed hardware.
All hardware drivers are WHQL certified.
CPU Temp is 41C
Motherboard Temp is 37C
2nd Motherboard Temp next to RIMM's is 43C
GPU Temp is 67C
I installed the AquaMark benchmark. It runs fine.
Before installing 3DMark03 Pro I used the free version of 3DMarkO3 six months ago and it worked fine. Although after each game test ran the desktop would open for moment and it had a command prompt window open in the desktop. I thought that was a bit unusual.
