Hey there guys,
Been working hard on the new layout for the site (www.absoluteinsight.net). The new layout was released today, and with it, we are featuring a great, extremely in-depth article that tests the Catalyst and Omega drivers for ATI cards. The review features 13 different drivers on 5 different benchmarks.
Check it out: http://www.absoluteinsight.net/index.php?id=16&page=1

Cool!

I think I'll add a link to it in the Cat thread.

A few points (take 'em or leave 'em I guess);

<b><font color=purple>-</font color=purple></b> Drop Codecreatures, I will be, very consistent through the driver versions. I've found very little difference.

<b><font color=purple>-</font color=purple></b> I'd prefer more detailed info about 3Dmk01/03 results. Bungholio marks on their own don't mean much. The actual breakdown would show what areas are affected most. Most people aren't looking for an increase in WingsOfFury results at the cost of Nature or other areas.

<b><font color=purple>-</font color=purple></b> Since you have the Demo, why not benchmark UT2K4 as well, sure it's a little CPU centric, but there were some differences, well more than CodeCreatures at least.

<b><font color=purple>-</font color=purple></b> Gunmetal is a poor comparison for Regular Cats to Omegas (or DNA drivers for that matter), there is a dramatic increase in results that are not experienced in any other game/benchmark, and with only having DX9 features paste on it's not very representative of true gaming performance. Also why omit Test 2 from the results?

<b><font color=purple>-</font color=purple></b> Add an Open GL test of some kind. A few of the driver upgrades focused on the boosts in OGL.

<b><font color=purple>-</font color=purple></b> You mention your power supply, disabled monitor and your optical drives, but you don't mention your memory timings, or your AGP apperture size, whether fastwrites is enabled, nor other driver settings (did you run Omega's 3Dmk01 optimizations?), nor the version of chipset drivers or bios, all of which have greater impact. Especially since you don't have the info from 3Dmk01/03 (as screenie of the 3Dmk03 profile would've been nice).

I'd also disagree with your assesment of the Catalyst 4.4 "<i>If at all possible, stay away from the Catalyst 4.4 drivers due to their disappointing performance</i>", as the differences are minor, and there's been alot of game patches added since the 3.5 drivers. Also the 4.3 and 4.4 drivers greatly improve PS2.0 performance which should help in the latest games like FarCry. And gaming performance versus benchmark results are two different things. If you were looking for the BEST benchmark results then you could suggest the Catalyst 3.4 for 3Dmk03 because they have that reorder shader optimization, however it won't help you in games.

Nice layout though, quick, easy to read. I would change your Graphs though since at 1920x1440 here at work (and likely 16x12 @ home) I had to capture them and then zoom in to read them. The Overall grid was ok because I could scale it easily.

Nice work.

Nice reveiw.I've always wondering about the profromance between the different drives. But I would also like to see IQ compairsions.

And just one more thing the site looks kind of bland to me.Colors are nice.Download photoshop 7 and jazz it up a bit.

Oh yeah 40k

I understand completely GreatGrapeApe, thanks for your comments, I tend to agree with you in most areas, as for the graphs, sorry about that =P the layout is optimized for 1024x768 right now =P. Most likely will change when we get a bit more bandwidth =P. Chances are we will be doing a huge review on nVidia drivers in the fairly near future (month or two, when we can grab a 5900 or 5950, or 6800 if we get lucky =P), and we will definatly take all these things into considerations, mostly the detailed 3dMark breakdown, OGL test, and more comp info.
If you are interested, Haggs' Comp. bio is on the site under his Team Member account (link on the right side of the site). But in the next article, we will make sure to mention all the extra stuff (bios settings, and stuff too)
Thanks for your comments guys =P
