9800 pro and VGA Silencer fan plugs don't match!?

I'll run down the street screaming "Merry Christmas Everybody!!" when I stop finding fun, new issues to ask you guys about. But until then, here's my latest: I bought a VGA silencer for my 9800 pro, but when the card arrived, the fan plugs don't match. The card has that L-shaped, covered HSF unit with a 3-prong plug, whereas the VGA silencer uses a 2-prong plug. Do I just cut the wires and swap plugs? What do I do with the 3rd wire? Anybody else have this same problem? Can you guys get me out of this wonderful new mess I've been blessed with?

Progressively finer grits of sandpaper until it reaches the level of finish you want. Some people use it dry, I prefer to use it wet with water, WD40 or some light oil(have used all, depends on what I normally have around). YOu will get what seems to be a mirror polish faster by using a swirl motion, get an actual smoother surface always going in same ddirection. Can get up to 600or 800 grit at most hardware stores(and that's as high as many people go), can get 800-2000grit at a pep boys or autozone or similar in the paint/body work section. Make sure after lapping with anything that you clean it very well with a good solvent to get off any oils, before applying your thermal compound. I prefer rubbing alcohol or acetone, others work.

Hey, thanks. What do you wrap the sandpaper around? Or do you lay the sandpaper flat and move the heatsink around? What about the fan plug problem? Anybody know what to do about that? My first 9800 pro (with the smaller HSF unit) was fine. Both it and the VGA silencer used the 2-prong fan plugs, but this new one uses a larger L-shaped HSF unit and a 3-prong plug. Rather than cut the stock HSF's fan wires and swap plugs, can I cut the VGAS's wires and convert it into a 4-pin plug connection and just plug it into the PSU instead of the card? I have an Antec PSU with those crappy "fan only" connections. Should I use those instead of the regular 4-pins?

Heres a guide on lapping your gpu <A HREF="http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/howtolapvideocard.php" target="_new">http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/howtolapvideocard.php</A>
And heres one on lapping a heatsink <A HREF="http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/heatsinklappingguide.php" target="_new">http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/heatsinklappingguide.php</A>

As for the fan plug the four plug should for power from the power supply and there should be a 2 pin plug somewhere on your board near your gpu.

And as for the fan

lol...I know where the plugs should go. My problem is that my 9800's stock fan unit has a non-typical 3-prong plug (close to but not quite the same 3-prong jacks on the mobo for fans) and it won't work with the VGA silencer's 2-prong plug. I'm asking if I can modify it somehow to work. I changed my previous post so ya might need to reread that for more info. Thanks for the links about the lapping tutorials! I just need to figure out this HSF problem becaues I can't use my OCZ BGA ramsinks with my card's stock HSF unit because it partially covers up 2 of the DDR chips.

Don't cut any wires, just remove the wires from the connector housing on both 2 and 3-pin connectors and insert the red and black wires into the 3-pin and plug it back in. The third hole stays empty. Worked fine for me.

so you had the same problem that I'm having? I'll try that trick ammotrk. Just to make sure, the two wires go in the 1st and 2nd holes and the 3rd (far right) one stays empty?
