AGP 4X vs. 8X

I have a Geforce 4 TI 4200 and I've been thinking about upgrading my card. My motherboard has an AGP 4X. Virtually all the cards I'm seeing nowadays are AGP 8X (although backwardly compatable).

Am I losing anything by having an AGP 4X port vs. 8X? A year and a half ago, when I bought my motherboard, nobody seemed to think that it was a big issue. Is that still the case?

How markedly does it impact performance?

there si virtually no impact on performance between AGP 4x/8x. AGP 4x is enough for all today's GPU.

Yes, cards with a 256-bit bus will show slight gains at high-resolutions, especially when AA & AF are used.

I once heard someone said that anything over GFFX5900/R9700 there would be a slight difference between using AGP 4X vs. 8X.

As you said it's a slight improvment. Anyway as you said, most people who buy HIGH-END GPU have AGP 8x MB.
