Well i've decided to get my new vid card, now here are the ones which i'm looking at. All the prices are canadian.

Sapphire radeon 9600xt 128 megs lite version for 223.99$

Sapphire radeon 9800 pro 128 megs lite version for 321.99$

Geforce FX 5700 Ultra from either PNY,XFX OR eVGA for 279.99$

XFX Geforce FX 5900XT for 279.99$

Leaning toward the 5900xt, read that its faster then the 9600xt and 5700 ultra and about the same as the 9800 pro.

All of your choices except the FX5700U would be good choices depending on your money situation.

TO save coin for other areas, the R9600XT has alot of nice performance, but doesn't meet the other two at higher res/higher settings.

The FX5900XT is good for primarily DX7/DX8 titles, and may have some advanatages in something like D]|[ (still an unknown, so don't rely on that). In pixel shader heavy games you may see it draw neck and neck with the R9600XT many/most times.

The R9800 pro will do far better than all the others in almost every situation (except something like Quake 3), the FX5900XT will not keep up or really stay too close to the R9800P in most newer games or at higher settings, only in older titles and lower settings will they be 'about the ame' as you put it. If you can use the money elsewhere, then you might want to consider it, but the R9800 is the king of the last generation, so it depends on what and how you like to play.

Your prices seem high, but perhaps that's just the vagueries of your location and their pricing.

As the prices stand I'd say it's a good indication of the power of the three card, although maybe I'd move the R9600XT up in price a bit or the other down slightly.

The FX5700U really is the only one that doesn't look like a good deal from what you have there.

That's just my two frames' worth.

Ok i only use 1024 x 768, so at that res will the r9800pro give me any big advantage over the others. I'm in canada thats why there expensive. Was thinking of the trading program but seems to much of a hasel, plus i want to keep my old card since i'm gona build another pc with all the other old parts i got.

Also my system currently is
XP 2400+
Asus A7V 333
Radeon 32 megs VE
768 megs of ram.

Well being from Canada, the Sapphire R9600PRO is available for under $200 dollars and would give you close to the same value of the R9600XT.

<A HREF="http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=10419&vpn=VCSR96P128&manufacture=SAPPHIRE" target="_new">NCIX has the Pro for $193.80</A>

That would do fine for 1024x768 in just about any game.

So either go for the savings, or go full out. Because at that res, you'lll likely just be turning up the features, and then the R9800Pro is the way to go IMO.

Been doing calculations and getting the 9800pro or even the 5900xt would leave me will little money after this, and i still havent found a job so i need the money. I think i might go with the 9600 pro from ncix, only gona cost around 222$ with tax and will leave be enough money untill i find a job. Plus this card should be able to run HL2 and all the new games fine even if i dont have all the details max out.

9600 PRO is good.

9800 PRO is much better though, you can get one for $199 US (~$275 Cdn) from Ati.com with an old video card as a trade in... go to a computer store and buy a $3 mach32, use that for a trade in. :)

Hmm.

The price on the FX5700 Ultra he quoted is WRONG. You can get it directly from eVGA for (<font color=red>Edited eVGA price</font color=red>) $219.00, not $279.00. See it here:
<A HREF="http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?Part_Number=128-A8-N336-AX" target="_new">http://www.evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?Part_Number=128-A8-N336-AX</A>

(<font color=red>EDIT: Added link</font color=red>)And here is one for $178.00. <A HREF="http://www.essencompu.com/nidurstadaleitar.asp" target="_new">http://www.essencompu.com/nidurstadaleitar.asp</A>
These guys are 100% reliable. I bought from them. So, since you are out of a job right now and money is the issue it will not hurt to take a closer look at FX5700 Ultra. Just do not go with GDDR3 because it is more expensive while there is no performance gain.

Elsewhere you can even find FX5700 Ultra at $150.00 +/- $2.00

So, technically speaking, if you have an extra $50-100 to spend, go with something other than FX5700 Ultra, but FX5700 Ultra is a very sturdy card, its eVGA variant is incredibly overclockable due to an excellent cooling solution which is both powerful and quiet.

So, basically, it is a matter of budget. If money is tight, you cannot go wrong with FX5700 Ultra.

Please don't say it's because you only have a 15 or 17 inch monitor! If that's the case, split your money between a graphics card and a NEW MONITOR. It doesn't matter what card you get if you have a tiny crap monitor that you play games on. Seriously, it's well worth the money to invest in a good quality monitor, otherwise it won't matter how good your card is, everything would still be too small. My recommendation would be to go find a job (good luck), and buy a new monitor and graphics card!

Thank you for your business with Anitec. Whatever you do, don't order online!! Because we rip you off with shipping, call us and negotiate for shipping fees.

LOL!

Dude, <b>CANADIAN CURRENCY</b>!

I'd link to the post where he mentions it, and to my replies that mention it, but I know you don't like when I do that.

I could find better US prices too (often have), but we are talking Canadian, and no duty so shipping from the US doesn't compete well.

Re-read my post, and re-check your prices, and I bet we could still see the general statements in my post covering the available US prices as well for all those parts(although the R9800Pro can be had for nearer the FX5900XT in the US).

I still stand by the statement;
