I am getting a lot of artifacting with my 9800XT when playing Far Cry. My card isn't overclocked and I am running the game at 1280 X 1024 with all details maxed. I am also getting random shutdowns. Anybody else have these issues? Any fixes? Oh, I am also running the Cat 4.3's.

Try the 4.5 Cats. I've heard that they helped 8500/9000/9200 owners... although I haven't heard of 9600's [EDIT: OR 9800's, or any Radeon over 9500's] getting artifacts in the game before.

Are you overclocking it?

Did he say 9600 or 9800?

Even if you aren't overclocking, what's the temp in the rest of your case? If the case gets too hot or has bad airflow, your card could still be getting plenty hot.

Yes, and if you're daring you can see if the heat sink will burn you. Anyway, I had that problem with a 9800pro and my temporary fix at the time was not only to take the side of the case off, but to place a box fan blowing in as well. That way I could still play games while waiting for a case with better airflow to come in.
