As soon as they see scratches or gouges on the pushpin's...you've had it. Is this card a 9700Pro?

When you took the original HSF off...the original tim(thermal interface material) should have came off with it. Did you leave it intact?

I got the thing... booted up... installed drivers... ran 3DMark03 at 333/333 to see if it was OK... saw no artifacts... got about ~5200 for a score... it truly looked better than my modded 9500np in 3DMark03 (not sure if that was just in my mind)... I shut down, said enough screwing around with the shim being a pussy like I was with my 9500np... popped the shim off, easy as pie... spent quite some time cleaning the gpu... used rubbing alchol, cue tips, and a small bread tie piece of plastic... got it to a mirror shine with all the goo off... and you know how that stuff sucks... put my copper heatsink on, gently and with patience... booted up, and I all of a sudden had visual distortion, just slight, on a few characters here and there during boot up, but when the windows log-on screen shows up, it is all distorted with missing segments, etc... at that stage, I could get into windows... but after a few reboots, it hangs and will not even let me into windows... I got in in safe mode and vga mode... I do not remember watching for distortion on the very first boot up, so I do not truly know...
Could the existing Wizzard's drivers for my current 9500np have messed this thing up... could it be a card bios problem... I read a post about firmware being messed up... can the bios be cleared...
AS5 might be a culprit... I want to throw that sh1t away... I am sure I ordered AS3 from bestbyte and they sent me AS5...
All the sticky goo was off of my gpu... but in my cleaning, it could have spread around... a toothbrush I was using did have some AS5 residue left on the tips from a previous job (I have since cut the tips off)... and the residue could have stuck to the goo and shorted out pins... but I am reaching here...
I have tried a few differnet drivers... I have tried upping the agp voltage to 1.6...
I really took my time and was careful... and I have REALLY cleaned this card up and have gained no ground... the same visual distortion happens at the windows load screen... some of the zeroes are missing pixels at bootup... and some pixels are odd colors...
The irony is that I got this card from a member here because I was sure I had destroyed my 9500np... but I got the 9500 working... and now this card may well be fried...
Why don't I break the card in half and go spend some time with my wife and put my hand over her pregnant belly...
I believe that mine was still intact with the hsf, but I cant remember. I no longer have the card anyway's.

Well I haven't cleaned it YET, I did take it off, and I did clean the chip but wanted to wait 'til I mess with the R9600 to alter it. If need be I can return it or forward it.

Still appreas as such, it's boxed seperately. The Board is at work waiting to be dismantled.

I would likely have to boot up and let the thing get hot for a while and hope the goo sticks to the gpu... GW, you are correct about the pins being scared a bit... I will see how the ones from my 9500np look like... but I bet they are the same...
When my shim came off, it was a clean pop... when I did it to my 9500, it got bent a little, but this one is still in its origional shape, so using some adhesive and sticking it back on would be the plan...
No way!....that's our hood scoop for project 9600Fro!

Well if he sends the original, then project R9600FRO is still on. Heck if I can go w/ the Peltier, it may not be necessary to go R9600FRO, just go straight to R9600MOFO.
Yeah I cropped the picture to avoid alot of compression. I have a few more, could post those too if you want.
