Best Laptop for around $500

Hello,
I am looking to purchase a new laptop soon. Which is better a Sony vio or a Toshiba Satelite. I typically do word processing, email, minor gaming (just testing sites for students), Netflix and You tube. I would prefer something that is highly portable and well under 1,000 dollars. Any advice would be helpful advice.

Just so long as you stay away from Sony Viao or Acer. Those have been the worst of my personal experience (and friend's and family's experiences as well).
I like phyco126's suggestion.
It's a good value @ $500 in 14" and only weights 4.4lbs
