Hello everybody, long story short I cant decide whether to get the AMD 7970M in an M17x or to get the 7970M crossfire with an M18x. I plan on using this computer for about 3 years - or the normal life of a laptop. I like all games but my old laptop struggles with some MMO's like Aion and Rift, and struggles with BF3. The choice of these laptops ive chosen the same CPU and RAM etc the only real difference is the model and the crossfire. The price of the M17x the way I want it is $2300 and the price of the M18x the way I want it is $2950.

I can afford either one but im not sure if I can justify the price difference if there wont be much difference with the games, as from the bench marks ive seen there is a difference, but it isnt massive. Will the crossfire help me lots in the long run, or will the 7970M single be able to keep up fairly well?

I realise the single card will run all the games in the next 3 years but I like to turn up the graphics to high or ultra.

I have an M17x R3. The m17x is a large laptop as is, the M18x is even larger. If you plan to use this laptop and only this laptop then I would go with the M18x if the price and weight are not excessive.

Before Dell, you could have bought an Alienware laptop made from Clevo components or a Clevo one for 2/3 the price..... Dell has since bought Alienware but little else has changed.
