I did a reformat on a friends hard drive - and everything went pretty
smooth - but the settings won't allow me to do anything but 16 bit .. how do
we get the 32 bit back so that we can change the settings from 640 x 480 to
1029 or whatever the next setting is?

Sound like you need the video card driver

Yeah, sounds like it's a driver for a video peripheral XP don't understand
( which is rare). Try and find the original installation disks for your
video card and install those.
