I am ready to buy a new ATI card. Is a 9600 with 256 ram better than a 9800 with 128 ram for the value?
I'm more interested in visual enhancements over additional FPS.

Thanks

9800 :) the 9600 with 256 vram doesn't have enough juice to play newer games. the 256 vram will really only come into play when ya have everything turned up high too and since the 9600 won't be able to do that anyways 9800 is a better way to go

RAM does (almost)nothing to increase performance, especially on a card like the 9600.

Your choice is between the 9600(pro? xt?) 128mb or the 9800 128mb. The 9800 is obviously better, but more expensive. The decision is entirely up to you.

9800 pro 256 meg ATI Radeon"Saphire" seemed like a good deal...is there a major boost with the XT over pro?

I wonder if the 6800UE and X800XTPE would be noticably slower w/ only 128MB....

Maybe it's not as useless as you think.

Most Pros can overclock to XT speeds....the 128MB version is your best bet, though. (and it can OC to XT speeds anyway).

You'll often find the 128MB cards are clocked higher than the 256MB versions and therefor perform better.

Was the same with 64MB and 128MB versions of cards, for example the GF4 Ti4200's.

my mates 9600 xt 256 performs better at best settings on farcry than my 9800 with 128 ram.

ram plays an important role at those levels.
